We are Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jackson, California, part
of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. That makes us direct descendants of
the Protestant Reformation led by Martin Luther, John Calvin, and others.
So, who is Martin Luther? Well, if you are a Protestant you owe a tremendous debt of gratitude
to him. Martin Luther is responsible, in large measure, for the gospel being
given to the masses. He was the first person to translate the Bible into a
language spoken by the average person, in this case German. Due to his example,
the Bible was translated into the common languages of many countries including
English (the King James Version).
Martin Luther taught that the Bible was the Word of God and as such the
authoritative source and norm of the Church's faith, life and proclamation. For him, the heart
of the Bible's message is the good news that we are justified by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Therefore, we welcome all to participate in the life of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
